6 Web Design Tips From our Expert

In Web by John Crafts

Web design is constantly evolving. With the advancements in technology, web design is getting incredibly creative and interactive. Many elements go into designing and crafting a website. It’s a balance of being unique and grabbing the viewers attention while still keeping functionality and clean of clutter. In the last few years, we’ve seen wed designers experiment and play with new techniques, reinvent previous styles, and spark new trends that have taken web design to the next level.

Staying up to date on trends is pretty important to our team and our clients. It’s how we ensure that we provide the best and highest quality work. We’ve been noticing some fun design trends lately, and we are always looking to lend a helping hand. Here are six web design tips our expert director of web operations thought worth sharing.

  1. Enlarged Elements

Using oversized elements are a great way to direct attention, while not overwhelming the user with too much content to sort through. It communicates your message clearly and instantaneously. These oversized elements can be anything from text to images or videos. Keeping elements large also look great across all screen sizes.

  1. Bright / Bold Colors

Bold/Bright colors are a great way to immediately grab your users attention. But it is important not to overuse these elements. Make sure you balance bright colors with neutral whites, greys and blacks. Use these colors to direct the user’s attention to the important parts of your content.

  1. White Space

This is a trend we have seen for a while in web design, but it doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. Creating lots of space around the content that you want the user to focus on, helps keep the audience’s attention where you want it. Just because there is space for more content, doesn’t mean you need to fill it with more content.

  1. Motion and Interactivity

Video and animations are not new on the web, but we are seeing a growing use of these elements to help brands express their message. From video headers to scrolling text and small animations when hovering over objects – interactivity and movement are important when trying to keep your audience’s attention.

  1. Exposed Grids

A new but growing trend in web design is exposed grids and tables, adding borders and outlines to elements on the page. This is a trend that has been inspired by technology and websites of the early ’00s. By borrowing a design from the early days of technology, a familiar feeling of nostalgia is experienced by the users.

  1. SVG

All modern browsers now provide SVG support. Meaning it’s easier than ever to provide fast, scalable vector graphics and animations. The unique thing about SVG’s is that they can be easily manipulated on the web – making them dynamic graphics, unlike images (.jpg, .png, etc.,) which are static/unchanging resources. The flexibility this allows is a game-changer.

Like most creative work, web design is somewhat of a craft. There are many good sites that provide services to help, but we recommend working with an expert designer. Our team is always here to help you bring your vision to life. Get a free website assessment here.
