The World Of Wedding Videography

Michigan Creative
Wedding Videography

Weddings are usually one of the most important days in a couple’s life together, and the happy couple probably wants to remember that day, right? Right.
Almost everyone does wedding photos, but the newest trend has become wedding videos. But, what exactly does wedding videography entail? Lots.

This wouldn’t be much a blog if I just left it at “lots”… So, let’s take a closer look at what making a wedding video is all about!

Wedding videography is a lot of fun, but it’s also a lot of work. It takes a lot of planning to make sure you’re right where you need to be, exactly when you need to be there, in order to capture every single important moment throughout the day. This is a lot easier when you have another person shooting with you!

At the same time as being in all of those places getting all of those shots, you also need to make sure you’re staying at of the way.
But how can I stay out of the way and still get the shot?
A good example of this could be the couple exchanging vows. This is obviously one of the more crucial moments of the day to make sure you get, but you don’t want to have your giant camera and tripod and mic set up right in the front row, right in front of guests… Just try to stay off slightly to the side, or back farther in the venue and just zoom in!

When you’re gathering broll of everything, try to only shoot what you need. When you sit down to start editing, you’ll be so happy you don’t have tons of random, shaky shots to sift through!

Make sure all of your shots are good, quality shots, and get creative! Capture those natural, candid moments but also make sure to get the dress, shoes, accessories, tying ties, etc. Those shots may be cliche, but they’re shots that most couples will want to see. Once those are checked off the list, just mix in with the atmosphere of the day and capture all of the people, emotions, settings, and everything in between. Have fun with it, it will show!

You don’t want the finished video to look staged in any way – just perfectly highlight the day, as it happened, for the couple to look back on over the years – but it’s also a good idea to ask if there is anything specific they would like included. Most brides these days are on Pinterest for months leading up to the big day, assembling the perfect board and imagining exactly what the day will look like. When you think about it like this, it’s safe to assume that she’s probably already seen tons of videos and thought, “I want a shot like that in mine!”

Overall, wedding videography is about making the couple happy and showing them what they want to see but, more importantly, it’s about giving them a video with some of the moments they may have missed throughout the day; something they can watch again and again to keep remembering what made their wedding day so special.
