Movies to Consider for a Successful Valentine’s Date
Only 3 days until our favorite hallmark holiday on February 14, Valentine’s Day. Whether you have a date or not, going to the movies is a great option to treat yourself. Not only is it cheap, but it gets you out of your boring school/work routine and gives you a reason to spend some quality time with others. There are some wonderful movies options out for any type of Valentine’s date right now. Below are a few suggestions in order to make a worthy movie choice for your date, yourself, or your friends!’
1. For the romantic valentine’s date: Silver Lining’s Playbook, Safe Haven
Silver Linings Playbook featuring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence has gotten great reviews, both from Rotten Tomatoes (92%) and from reliable friends of mine. The story is about starting over and finding happiness in unexpected circumstances. Lawrence is supposedly spectacular in the film! I’ve recently added this movie on my “to watch list”.
Safe Haven comes out on Valentine’s Day and has gotten a lot of media attention. After all, anything with Nicholas Sparks involved is going to get a lot of buzz. Much like “The Notebook”, “Dear John”, and “The Lucky One”, Safe Haven is going to give us the beautiful romantic story that a good romance movie requires along with a few tears and unexpected twists. Both Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel are very talented, I think it is safe to say this one will do well!
2. For the friendly valentine’s date: Warm Bodies, Side Effects
Warm Bodies is a comedy featuring Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer. This movie proves that love doesn’t always happen the way we plan but it’s power is inevitable. Don’t worry, there is nothing mushy or too romantic about the movie. I saw this last weekend with a bunch of dudes and we loved it! The plot is fresh and the script is hilarious. Both of these guys did a great job in the acting department as well. I recommend this 100%
Side Effects came out recently and is also doing well is the critics department. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 86% and it seems to be a decent choice for users as well. This thriller includes Rooney Mara and Channing Tatum and is about a successful New York couple who’s world unravels when a drug prescribed for anxiety has unlikely side effects. Let’s be honest, you can’t really go wrong with a movie with Channing Tatum in it. This is a good choice for a more serious plot which makes for a good casual date.
3. For the “I hate Valentine’s Day” individual or “Bro Date”: A Good Day To Die Hard
There nothings like intense fighting, car chases, and gun firing scenes to keep your mind off romance and relationships. Bruce Willis does it again in “A Good Day To Die Hard” as he heads to Russia to help out his seemingly wayward son, only to discover that he is a CIA operative working to prevent a nuclear-weapons heist, causing the father and son to team up against underworld forces. This comes out on Valentine’s Day as well, so we have to give props to the movie producers who give the single folks and men something to enjoy as well.
I will probably be heading to see Safe Haven as I am a sucker for a good Nicholas Sparks novel. Regardless of what movie you decide to see, or who you decide to see it with, try to enjoy this Valentine’s Day. Taken or single, you deserve to treat yourself!
