The Best Beaches in Michigan

In Michigan by Linnea Johnson

We’ve all spent a little bit too much time indoors, strained our eyes a little too hard staring at our computers, and gone far too long without a vacation. It’s time to get out and enjoy all the beauty Michigan has to offer! They don’t call us the “water wonderland” state for nothing, so what better way to enjoy the outdoors than at one of the best beaches in Michigan? These destinations are sure to leave you feeling recharged and refreshed this summer!

Holland, MI

Holland State Park offers a gorgeous beach with miles of trails and campgrounds for visitors. The beach itself is perfect for a day of swimming, sunbathing, or playing frisbee with the family. Another thing that makes Holland so special is Ottawa Beach Road. Spend the day relaxing at the beach, then bike, walk, or rollerblade down the road to get ice cream, explore the marina, or pop into some locally-owned shops.

Ludington, MI

This quiet little tourist town comes alive during the summertime and is jam-packed with fun activities. Scale up the dunes for a breathtaking view of Lake Michigan at Ludington State Park Beach while also soaking up that amazing Michigan sunshine. Next, hike the trails to check out the historic Big Sable Point Lighthouse. Be even more adventurous and hit the Silver Lake Sand Dunes Park for massive sand dunes with a fantastic view of Silver Lake below.

McCarty’s Cove

McCarty’s Cove is a must-stop on your next trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Spend the day working on that tan and then head into the cool waters of Lake Superior for a (very) refreshing dip! The black rocks lining the shore as well as the famous red lighthouse overhead make this picturesque beach seem like a secret getaway destination. Bring a volleyball, some good music, and friends to this beach as even the locals know this is the place to be in the summertime!

Au Train Beach

The Au Train Beach, located just 25 minutes from Marquette, MI is a sight you won’t forget! The winds of Lake Superior create eye-catching sand dunes that change every time you come back. Kayak or canoe down the nearby Au Train river, and then head to the beach for a fun day in the sun!

No matter what plans you have this summer, don’t forget to give yourself a well-deserved break. Spend time at one of the best beaches in Michigan with family and friends (safely of course), relax, and just enjoy the beautiful summer weather!
